Years later he would be named Entrepreneur of the Year in Inc. Magazine, lead The Dealership of the Year as named by Home Care Magazine and sit on the boards of The Oakwood Foundation, The Center for Independent Living and Oakwood Healthcare, Inc. — but in 1983 Randy Kowalski was just beginning his respiratory equipment business. Then called Home Care of Dearborn, Randy launched what would grow to become one of the major home medical equipment suppliers in the region.
Within the first year, Home Care of Dearborn moved into its first commercial facility, evolving from respiratory supplies to a full line of home medical equipment. Rapid growth forced the company to move again two years later, this time into a 20,000 sq. foot facility that could accommodate the demand.
In 1987, a joint venture partnership was established with Oakwood Hospital, the first of several partnerships that solidified the company as the top choice for home medical equipment amongst hospitals across the state. In that same year, Home Care of Dearborn became Joint Commission certified and the first company to be accredited in all levels of service for the home medical industry, accolades that have been maintained to this day.
Expanding the product line once again, and now serving all of Michigan’s lower peninsula, Home Care of Dearborn became Home Care of Michigan in the mid 1990s. The new name reflected the great strides the company had made in less than a decade. It was under the Home Care of Michigan name that the company made yet another move in 1998 into a 37,500 sq. foot facility in Allen Park, Michigan.
A second headquarters was established in Grand Rapids, Michigan in 2010. What began as a small respiratory supplies business out of East Dearborn was now a multi-headquarter corporation serving major medical systems across the country.
